How a SIP grows

A systematic investment plan (SIP) invests a fixed amount at regular intervals. Because you buy at different prices over time, you avoid the pressure of timing the market, and compounding works on both your contributions and the gains already earned.

The most powerful levers are time and consistency. Starting five years earlier, or raising your instalment a little every year, often matters more than chasing a slightly higher return.

Frequently asked questions

How is the SIP maturity amount calculated?

The calculator assumes the instalment is invested at the start of each month and compounds at a monthly rate equal to the annual return divided by 12. The standard formula is FV = P x [((1 + i)^n - 1) / i] x (1 + i), where P is the monthly amount, i is the monthly rate and n is the number of months.

What does the annual step-up do?

A step-up raises your monthly instalment by a fixed percentage every year, for example when your income grows. Even a small yearly increase can add a large amount to the final corpus over a long period.

Are the returns guaranteed?

No. Market-linked returns change from year to year. The expected return you enter is an assumption, so treat the result as an illustration rather than a promise.

Is this financial advice?

No. This calculator is an educational tool. Mutual fund investments are subject to market risks, so read the scheme documents and consider speaking to a SEBI-registered adviser before investing.
